SpeedThru™ Sleeve Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a laptop bag or sleeve checkpoint friendly?
In the judgment of the manufacturer, a bag or sleeve meets checkpoint friendly guidelines, if the bag or sleeve provides a clear X-ray image of the laptop computer.  In practice, this means that the X-ray image must be clear, without obstruction, from content like power cords or from the bag itself.  The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) itself does not designate bags or sleeves as checkpoint friendly.
What can I do to help ensure that I am not asked to remove my laptop?
Items placed inside the sleeve may interfere with a clear X-ray image and thereby subject the traveler to secondary screening measures. Do your best to ensure a clear X-ray image of your computer. Do not obscure the computer by trying to also fit gear (power cords, mouse, headphones or files) into the sleeve.
How do I move through security with my @work or verb business case that has a SpeedThru™ sleeve?
When you enter security simply remove the SpeedThru™ sleeve from your business case and place it on the airport’s security conveyor belt. Your laptop will be protected in its case and easily identifiable to you when you pass through the security metal detector.

Does Briggs & Riley guarantee that its SpeedThru™ sleeve is checkpoint friendly?

No. The SpeedThru™ sleeve was developed by Briggs & Riley in close compliance with TSA checkpoint friendly guidelines. Whether you will be required to remove your laptop from the sleeve during the X-ray process is ultimately the decision of the individual TSA agent(s) working at that X-ray machine.
I purchased a Briggs & Riley business case some time ago. Is my laptop sleeve checkpoint friendly?
Most business cases from our @work collection have laptop sleeves that are checkpoint friendly. The following styles have removable sleeves and are checkpoint friendly: BB101/LB101, BB102/LB102, BB103, BB104X/LB104X, BB107, BB109, BB123, BB140, BR212X, BR214/LR214, BR222 and BR260. The following Verb style is checkpoint friendly: VBU410. It is recommended that the consumer not use the positioning sleeves as they may interfere with a clear X-ray image.
Is the SpeedThru™ sleeve TSA approved?
The Briggs & Riley SpeedThru™ sleeve is not TSA approved. TSA does not approve the products of any manufacturer. TSA states that it is the responsibility of the manufacturer to determine that the bag provides a clear X-ray image, thereby being checkpoint friendly. Briggs & Riley has worked with the TSA to test the SpeedThru™ sleeve to ensure that it provides a clear X-ray image.
When was “checkpoint friendly” implemented?
As of August 15, 2008, TSA reported that it had implemented the new checkpoint friendly security procedures throughout US airports.

Travel Sentry® Approved.
Travel Sentry® is a leading independent testing and standards organization. The Travel Sentry® Red Diamond mark indicates that the SpeedThru™ laptop sleeve has undergone rigorous testing by Travel Sentry, and is Travel Sentry® Approved as checkpoint friendly.

Briggs & Riley’s SpeedThru™ laptop sleeves are the first-ever Travel Sentry® Approved checkpoint friendly laptop sleeves. Used as directed, your laptop can remain in its sleeve during screening. However, screening officers, at their discretion, may request that your laptop be removed for inspection.
